52. Pick Analysis. AFC. South. Scouting Report. Jacksonville Jaguars. 1. player

The Jaguars are going to be linked with virtually any free agent next offseason because as of now, their best option is Gardner Minshew. Nothing against Minshew – He had a decent rookie campaign and ended up permanently taking the job from Nick Foles, but Minshew isn’t the long-term answer for the Jags.

While Dalton probably wouldn’t be either, should the Jaguars have a poor record in 2020, land a top five draft pick, and get one of the highly touted prospects, they’ll want an experienced vet in town just in case. Dalton could play the role of what Tyrod Taylor has done in Cleveland and is going to do in Los Angeles this year, starting the first four or five games and then potentially getting sidelined when the rookie is ready to go.

Even if Jacksonville doesn’t get a top quarterback, Dalton could be their starter in 2021 and they’d be a middle of the road football team.

Andy Dalton had a respectable nine-year career in Cincinnati and now a new chapter in his career begins. It’s surprising that he signed with the Cowboys, as he’ll only be a backup there, but it makes sense given the circumstances the nation is facing right now.

Next year will be a different story and Dalton should be able to hook on with a team and be their starting option heading into the 2021 season. Dalton might not be the same guy he was early in his career, but he’s a reliable starter and can win games. That will be enough for someone to take a chance on him next year.
