It is quite uncommon to see this amount of top NFL free agents still without a team. Where are the best fits for the remaining top players?

Normally in mid-May, remaining NFL free agents are veteran depth pieces or players on their last legs. Once in awhile, a Pro-Bowl like player will be available. This season, there are a number of players that could be difference makers for teams in 2020. The list includes a former MVP, a  nine time Pro Bowler and two time All-Pro and a three-time Pro-Bowler among others.

The cause of this is likely due to Covid-19, which has altered the NFL offseason so far. Pandemic aside, some teams would be foolish not to jump on some of the top NFL free agents while they still have the chance.

Let’s look at some of these NFL free agents still available and which teams they fit best with.

5. Everson Griffen – Minnesota Vikings

It’s no surprise to see a 10-year veteran on the open market. When it comes to pass rushers, only the few elite can maintain a level of success for that amount of time. In the case of Everson Griffen, he has.

Over the course of Griffen’s career, he has been a staple in the Vikings’ defense. Since 2010, Griffen has racked up 355 tackles and 74.5 sacks. The three-time Pro Bowler finished his age-32 season with 41 tackles, eight sacks and a PFF grade of 76.6 for pass rushers. He has been a consistent force each and every year for Mike Zimmer’s defense.

This leads to the question, where is the best fit for Griffen? He shouldn’t look to far for his answer, because it’s home. Griffen has fit in Minnesota’s defense his entire career and with a team that’s still contending, there is no reason to leave.

The Vikings should make it a point to bring back the veteran. The fans love him, team loves him and he is successful. It’s not everyday a player of Griffen’s caliber hangs around as long as he does with one team. Retiring a Viking should be both a player and team goal.
