24. Mark Few, Gonzaga

Salary $3,191,368 | Buyout: N/A

Mark Few is not among the well-traveled coaches in college basketball. In fact, he’s not traveled at all. A native of Oregon, he went to school in Eugene but was hired as a graduate assistant at Gonzaga for the 1989-90 season. After holding that position for one year with the Bulldogs, he got the upgrade and the full-time spot as he became an assistant coach.

Holding that position from 1990-99, Few paid his dues on the sidelines and was rewarded with the head coaching position prior to the 1999-2000 season. He’s been in that spot ever since in Spokane and it feels safe to say that Gonzaga hasn’t regretted promoting him into that spot since they did so.

Since taking the job, Few has never won fewer than 23 games in a single season — and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The Bulldogs have won at least 30 games in six of the last eight years while Few is an unreal 599-124 overall with Gonzaga. For good measure, he also holds the record for most consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances since starting as a head coach (21) and is the third-fastest head coach to reach 500 wins.

Few is already the greatest head coach in Gonzaga history and, at 57 years old, he’s just getting started. He’s taken the program to a National Championship Game, three Elite Eights and nine Sweet 16s and has won the WCC regular-season title in all but two seasons. Frankly, the fact that he’s only No. 24 on this list is the most surprising part.
