An angry Chase Elliott flips off Kyle Busch at Darlington

After Kyle Busch turned Chase Elliott in the wall and out of the race, Elliott did not take too kindly to the action and flipped him off.

NASCAR is back for its second race since its season was suspended due to novel coronavirus, and with that return has come the tensions that make each race interesting. Those tensions and emotions were on full display Wednesday night in Darlington.

With 29 laps to go, Kyle Busch trailed Chase Elliott by one spot and and tried to sneak in the gap behind Elliott. The result of that move spun Elliott into the inside wall of the track. The incident led to some choice actions from Elliott, directed towards Busch.

After the race, Busch admitted in an interview with FOX that it was a mistake. He acknowledged he misread how big the gap was and it was his mistake for what happened to Elliott. Busch talked to and apologized to Elliott’s team, but admitted it will take time for Elliott to move on.

The accident led to a caution and while the race was under caution, the skies began to open up. After a couple minutes of a downpour, the cars were called into pit road and the race was called off. Denny Hamlin got the win in the shortened race.

It remains to be seen what the fallout from this incident will be, if there is any. Busch maintains a strong relationship with Elliott’s team and hopes both parties can move on quickly from this. Both Elliott and Busch were in contention to win the race, and even without the accident, it may have been difficult to finish the race due to the weather.

After two races in Darlington, NASCAR moves up to Charlotte for its next set of races. The cup series’ longest race, the Coca-Cola 600, is scheduled for Sunday. Green flag is expected shortly after 6:00 from Charlotte Motor Speedway on Fox.
