Cleveland Browns: 5 free agents to sign in order to win in 2020
The Cleveland Browns were supposed to be in the playoff hunt last season, but they can finally fulfill their potential in 2020 with a few more big acquisitions in free agency.
After bolstering their pass rush and acquiring Odell Beckham Jr. in a steal of a deal, the Cleveland Browns were supposed to be on the ascent as one of the best team’s in the AFC. Instead, they were the third-best team in the AFC North, as Baker Mayfield struggled in his sophomore campaign.
However, the Browns have put together another strong 2020 offseason thus far, and they will have actual leadership in the front office and on the coaching staff. If they can make even one of these five signings, the Browns can finally make it to the postseason.
DE Everson Griffen
Myles Garrett and Olivier Vernon give the Browns one of the best starting 4-3 defensive end duos in the NFL, as Garrett is a legitimate MVP candidate on the defensive side of the ball. Adrian Clayborn is a quality situational edge rusher who recorded at least 13 QB hits in each season from 2015-18.
That said, the Browns should try to add one more star player to the defensive line this offseason in order to become a true juggernaut defensively. Former Minnesota Vikings star Everson Griffen remains one of the most effective edge rushers in the NFL. A benchmark of consistency, Griffen recorded eight sacks last season.
While the Vikings are favorites and the Seattle Seahawks have also been linked, the Browns should still have interest in signing Griffen.
