Minnesota Vikings: 5 free agents to sign in order to win in 2020
By Gino Terrell
The Minnesota Vikings are coming off a postseason appearance and are capable of adding some fire power this offseason to help them be successful in 2020.
Even under a tight salary cap, the Minnesota Vikings can add some difference makers on their roster for 2020.
The 2019 Vikings capped off the season with a thrilling Wild Card playoff win against the New Orleans Saints on the road in overtime. Their playoff journey ended the following round against the eventual NFC champions in the San Francisco 49ers. While the Vikings have lost impact players this offseason such as Stefon Diggs, Everson Griffen and Linval Joseph, looking ahead they can still add five difference makers to have a successful 2020 season.
5. Clay Matthews
Outside linebacker Clay Matthews should be a target for the Vikings. Matthews won’t be an every-down option, but he’s a guy they can plug in a few packages when the Vikings need a pass rush.
After losing Griffen to free agency, Matthews can partially fill his void. He and Danielle Hunter could leave opposing quarterbacks with nowhere to run. Matthews is a versatile pass-rusher the Vikings could have line up on the edge for special situations.
In addition to winning, the Vikings can offer Matthews something that few teams can. A situation where Matthews will have two chances to dish some payback on the Green Bay Packers, who released him following the 2018 season. That may just be enough to motivate Matthews to sign an affordable one-year deal.
