Cam Newton’s brother Caylin Newton transfers to Auburn

Caylin Newton is transferring to Auburn where his older brother Cam played.

Auburn is getting another Newton.

Caylin Newton is transferring to Auburn to finish his college football career after beginning his career at Howard.

Newton is the younger brother of former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton who won the Heisman Trophy and led the Tigers to an undefeated national championship season in 2010.

The younger Newton played quarterback at Howard and was the MEAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2018 after winning the Rookie of the Year as a freshman. Despite his success as a quarterback at Howard, Newton could be making a position switch at Auburn.

According to Keith Niebuhr of Auburn Undercover, Netwon joins the team as a preferred walk-on athlete who could play wide receiver, quarterback or anywhere else his skills can be used. He will have a chance to earn a scholarship.

A former three-star recruit out of Grady High School in Atlanta entered the transfer portal during the 2019 season.

In his college debut vs. UNLC in 2017, Newton led Howard to the biggest point-spread upset in college football history, defeating the 45-point favorites, 43-40. Newton accounted for 330 total yards and three touchdowns, including 190 yards and two scores on the ground to go with his 140 yards and a touchdown through the air.

Newton looked just like his older brother despite being listed at 6-foot and 195 pounds. Caylin has been met with the comparisons and pressure that comes with being brothers with a college football legend, No. 1 pick and NFL MVP who led his team to a Super Bowl.

Now, he’s going to the school where his brother realized his potential and set forth on a new path. Little brother is hoping to follow in big bro’s footsteps on the Plains.
