New York Giants: 5 free agents to sign in order to win in 2020
2. New York Giants free agent targets: Taylor Gabriel, wide receiver
A year ago, the New York Giants’ best wide receiver turned out to be a fifth-round round draft choice in 2019. While fellow wideouts Sterling Shepherd (57) and Golden Tate (49) actually finished with more catches than rookie Darius Slayton, the former Auburn product was the team’s big-play passing option regardless of who was throwing him the football.
The young performer played in 14 contests and finished with 48 receptions, good for a team-best 740 yards and the club-high eight touchdown grabs. He did not play in the Giants’ first two games and really excelled in the club’s final seven contests. Over that stretch, he snared 31 passes for 467 yards and five scores – totaling 100-plus receiving yards twice during that span.
So why not add another player with explosive potential that would make life easier for young signal-caller Daniel Jones? Wide receiver Taylor Gabriel was cut loose by the Chicago Bears this offseason after two years with the club. He was limited to only nine contests this past year and caught only 29 passes for 353 yards. But the one-time member of the Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons found the end zone four times. He could wind up being a nice bargain pickup for Big Blue.
