Most outside observers seem to be under the opinion that Bridgewater will be replacing Cam Newton in 2020. That’s not accurate. The former Saints star will actually be trying to give Carolina an upgrade over the likes of Kyle Allen and Will Grier.

That’s the way Bridgewater needs to approach his first season in Carolina. His job will be to distribute the ball efficiently in Brady’s new system. He doesn’t need to get caught up in trying to make the sort of jaw-dropping plays that defined Newton’s time with the franchise.

Look for the offensive coaching staff to install a lot of short and intermediate throws to make Bridgewater’s life as easy as possible. The Panthers are blessed with quality playmakers on the outside and in the backfield. Bridgewater needs to focus on getting the ball to his playmakers in space.

Bridgewater is under a sneaky amount of pressure in 2020. If the Panthers finish the year with one of the worst records in the NFL it’s very likely they’ll consider spending a high draft choice on a quarterback in 2021. Bridgewater is already fighting for his job in Carolina.
