30. Mantis
Mantis was first introduced in Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2, where she met the ragtag group of intergalactic scoundrels with her master Ego. There she was working with the all mighty being to assist him in his efforts to ease his neurotic behavior. The kind insectoid is actually a gifted empath with the ability to sense other people’s feelings and alter them. It’s hard not to love this character, but it’s even harder to watch her take a beating in a fight. She’s definitely great to have on the team, but she may want to take a Maria Hill-esque position with Star-Lord’s crew as opposed to a full combat detail.
Mantis may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but what she lacks in brains, she more then makes up for in energy and compassion. While she did fight bravely in Endgame and Infinity War, she still ranks very low on the totem pole when it comes to being one of the Avengers. She adds great comic relief to the Guardian’s team, but unfortunately, she is the MCU’s caboose. She’s number one in everyone’s hearts, but number 30 when it comes to frontline potential in a battle with the fate of the universe on the line.
