Ohio State football: 5 best seasons in Buckeyes history, ranked
By Dante Pryor
Ranking the five best seasons in Ohio State football history.
There is an argument that the Ohio State Buckeyes are the most consistent football program in the history of the sport. Since the legendary Woody Hayes took over the program, Ohio State has only four losing seasons.
Think about that, four losing seasons in nearly 70 seasons. Most years, they are in the hunt for the Big Ten championship and since the Jim Tressel era, the Buckeyes are consistently in the conversation for the National Championship.
The Buckeyes are in rarified air with over 900 wins as a program; they are only one of seven programs with 900-plus wins. Along with those regular-season wins the Buckeyes have 40 conference titles and eight national championships.
The Buckeyes have no shortage of legendary players either. Among their seven Heisman Trophy and 87 consensus All-Americans are names like Eddie George, Archie Griffin and Troy Smith to NFL stalwarts Terry Glenn and Joey Galloway.
There is a laundry list of great players and seasons in Buckeye history. The Buckeyes rose to national prominence under Hayes. Though Ohio State had sporadic success, Hayes was able to build and sustain the program in the 28 seasons he coached.
Every other coach that roamed the sidelines has done the same. Between Hayes, Tressel, John Cooper and Urban Meyer, there is no shortage of good Ohio State football seasons, but these are the five best in Buckeyes history.
