5 teams who should trade for Chris Jones
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles already invested heavily in the defensive line this offseason with the free-agent signing of Javon Hargrave on a three-year, $39million deal.
Philadelphia has over $60m tied up in the contract of Fletcher Cox while veteran Malik Jackson is also on the roster. However, that should not preclude them from throwing more money at an area of strength as the Eagles look to make a run at their second Super Bowl.
General manager Howie Roseman has $22.7m in cap space to operate with in 2020. That is ample room with which to pay Jones following a potential trade with Kansas City.
The Eagles saw the kind of success their conference rivals the 49ers had last season by throwing waves of defensive linemen at their opponents.
Cox, Hargrave and Jones would represent a formidable trio to utilize in a similar manner. The Eagles’ prospective fortification of the trenches would have the added benefit of offering protection to a secondary that still looks vulnerable despite the offseason acquisition of Darius Slay.
The Eagles have never been afraid of being aggressive in parting with draft picks to supplement their roster. In an NFC East division where their defense will have to contend with a fiercely talented Dallas Cowboys offense, doing so again to land Jones is something Roseman must consider.
