Utah football provides some good news.

Utah football’s walk-on program gave us another great viral video over the weekend.

During a team Zoom meeting, the entire Utes football team was there to celebrate senior offensive lineman London Bartholomew being put on scholarship. Bartholomew is entering his final season at the University of Utah and all his hard work has paid off in the coolest of ways.

Whenever a college football player walks on, he knows he’s up against it. He has to pay his own way to be at school. Oftentimes, he’s relegated to serving on the scout team, hoping one day he’ll get to step foot on the college football gridiron and play in front of the home crowd. These are the viral moments we crave because it’s an uplifting moment everyone can get behind.

Utah football rewards London Bartholomew by putting him on scholarship.

Bartholomew’s journey to being put on scholarship took him all across the country. The Mesa, Arizona native originally played at Ohio Wesleyan in 2016 before transferring to Utah. Bartholomew redshirted in 2017, now in his third year playing for the program. He played in two games last year for the Utes vs. the Idaho State Bengals and the division rival Colorado Buffaloes.

“You talk about another example of a guy who did nothing but bust his butt,” said his head coach Kyle Whittingham. “He has done everything the right way, never asked for anything, has worked hard, is a great teammate and a great team guy.”

Bartholomew’s work ethic on the field is only matched by his work in the classroom, as he has his spot on the Pac-12 All-Academic honor roll. To make the honor roll in a Power 5 conference with as many prestigious universities as the Pac-12 is impressive. To play on scholarship in his redshirt senior year on a College Football Playoff contender is even better. What a ride it has been for him!

“Utah has an amazing walk-on program and if you put in your time and commitment into the program it will pay off,” said Bartholomew. He shared on Twitter his announcement of being placed on scholarship shortly after it was revealed to him on Sunday evening. His teammates and Utah football fans had no problem heaping on the praise of such a remarkable accomplishment.

Even though Bartholomew may only play in a handful of games in his final season in Salt Lake, all the hard work and sacrifice for him to even get to the point for Coach Whittingham and his staff to even think about putting him on scholarship cannot be understated.

Congratulations on a job well-done, London! Well-deserved.
