How far can Bo Nix lead Auburn football in the 2020 season?

A season ago, Auburn football boasted one of the best defenses in the country, headlined by a star duo on the line with Derrick Brown and Marlon Davidson. However, the offense with freshman quarterback Bo Nix was a bit inconsistent. As a result, the Tigers were never among the truly elite teams in college football, finishing the year at just 9-4 overall, including an Outback Bowl loss to Minnesota.

In the simplest terms, the Tigers will go as far as Nix can take them in the 2020 season. Auburn football is in the hands of the sophomore signal-caller in a major way. Yes, the defense returns some playmakers, headlined by Big Kat Bryant. However, the defensive line and secondary will largely be comprised of players filling the shoes of high-end talents that are now gone.

As for Nix, he won’t be short on weapons. Yes, running back JaTarvious Whitlow shockingly transferred this offseason but D.J. Williams and committee of ball-carriers will be fine. More importantly, wide receivers Seth Williams and Anthony Schwartz should make for a dynamic pass-catching duo that can attack all levels of the field.

That’s why so much pressure will be on the young quarterback. There’s no questioning the moxie or athleticism of Nix and head coach Gus Malzahn has heaped praise on him. Having said that, Nix didn’t always showcase that on the field. His accuracy was wildly inconsistent, especially in big games. And now he’s playing behind an offensive line that’s replacing five starters.

Suffice it to say there is a high level of variance for Auburn football in the 2020 season with so much on Nix’s shoulders. So how will the quarterback and his Tigers cohorts fair in the upcoming campaign, a slate that features trips to Athens and Tuscaloosa? Let’s predict every game on the Auburn football schedule.
