 1. New York Knicks

The Knicks have needs all over the roster, but it’s clear they don’t have a point guard on their roster they can build around. That’s why finding a lead guard should be New York’s top priority in this year’s draft.

The franchise might prefer someone with a little more upside as a scorer (LaMelo Ball springs to mind) but Hayes could be just as successful in the long-term. His passing ability could make it easier for the Knicks to lure free-agent scorers to the Big Apple.

The only question about the fit from Hayes’ perspective is whether or not the Knicks will have enough scoring around him early in his career. New York obviously believes RJ Barrett can be that guy. He would certainly benefit from more catch and shoot opportunities. Pick and rolls with Barrett and Hayes could be an interesting option for the Knicks offense.

The Knicks could look to address a number of positions with their first-round pick, but getting a starting point guard is a requirement if they’re going to build an efficient offense anytime soon. Securing a distributor of Hayes’ quality would be an important step forward for a franchise that lacks direction.
