Cade Cunningham, the nation’s top recruit, could be on the move.

There could be a massive domino falling in college basketball thanks to the NCAA’s decision to issue a one-year postseason ban for Oklahoma State. If the ban is upheld on an appeal the Cowboys won’t be eligible for the NCAA Tournament, which could mean a potential transfer for Cade Cunningham, who is the top-ranked player in this recruiting class who chose to attend college.

Cunningham could consider playing somewhere else if he decides to not waste a year at a program without a path to the NCAA Tournament. Let’s take a look at three potential options for Cunningham, including one that doesn’t involve college hoops at all.

3. Cade Cunningham could play in the G-League

The G-League has become a popular choice for some athletes, including this year’s top-ranked prospect, Jalen Green. Despite having offers from many of the nation’s top programs, Green opted to take a one-year deal with the G-League that will pay him $500,000.

Cunningham never seriously considered the G-League before, but there could be a massive offer available to him if he wants to take it. The idea of securing guaranteed money could also be a smart move given the economic realities of the coronavirus pandemic, which could shrink future salary caps in the NBA for the next few years.

Getting paid now could be a more serious option for Cunningham and the G-League would love the opportunity to add some more star power to the mix. This would also be the worst-case scenario for the NCAA as it would see another talented basketball player opt-out of the system that is currently in place.
