Remembering Reche Caldwell with every single touchdown of his NFL career

Former Florida and NFL wide receiver Reche Caldwell was tragically killed on Sunday.

The football world is reeling today following the truly shocking news of one of its own losing his life far, far too soon.

Reche Caldwell, who followed a terrific college career at Florida with a six-year career in the NFL with the Chargers, Patriots, and Redskins, was shot and killed Sunday in an attempted robbery. He was 41 years old.

Caldwell’s finest NFL moment surely came in a Patriots uniform against the team that drafted him. In the AFC Divisional Playoffs, he caught a late touchdown pass from Tom Brady to tie it against the Chargers, with New England eventually winning on a field goal. In honor of his memory, it’s time to re-live that moment along with every other touchdown he scored as a pro.

A Second Team All-SEC and honorable mention All-American pick in 2001 as a junior, Caldwell opted to leave Steve Spurrier’s Gator program early to seek his professional fortune. He was selected in Round 2 of the 2002 NFL Draft (48th overall) by the Chargers, appearing in 48 games.

His finest season came in Foxborough, as he stacked up 61 catches for 760 yards and four scores in a season that ended in the AFC Championship against the Colts.

In these days of protest and of COVID-19, it’s all the more essential to step back and take stock of how fragile life can be. Caldwell was a man with his fair share of troubles, but to see him cut down at such a young age is the most painful of reminders of just how much life he still had ahead of him.

Fortunately, the fans who watched him work on the field will remember him forever.
