Spencer Rattler eagerly anticipates his return to Oklahoma this summer.

Spencer Rattler has his shot to be the next star quarterback for Oklahoma football.

In the last three years, Lincoln Riley’s Oklahoma Sooners have sent three different quarterbacks to the Heisman Trophy ceremony. Baker Mayfield won it in 2017, Kyler Murray took home the trophy in 2018 and Jalen Hurts finished as runner-up to Joe Burrow of the LSU Tigers in 2019. Could Rattler be the next Sooners star to get an invitation to New York City in early December?

Recently, we’ve seen Rattler skyrocket up to having the third-best odds to win the Heisman Trophy behind co-favorites Trevor Lawrence of the Clemson Tigers and Justin Fields of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Though Rattler is not on either of their levels yet, the hype train is very real thing for him and Oklahoma football.

With Hurts now in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, it’s Rattler’s turn to shine in Norman. He’s so excited about getting back to OU that he tweeted out his excitement on Tuesday night.

Spencer Rattler cannot wait to get back to Norman to get to work again.

Rattler has put in the work to the best of his ability in this chaotic offseason. He’s been working with Mike Giovando of The Elev8 QB Academy in his native Arizona. Rattler may have been a blue-chip prospect coming out of high school, but he’s been putting in serious work this spring to be ready for fall camp at OU, whenever that day arises.

By signing up to play in Riley’s Air Raid system, Rattler will put up incredible passing numbers, just like Mayfield, Murray and Hurts did before him. While there will surely be accolades coming along with that, there are also huge expectations to play quarterback at a program like Oklahoma.

The Sooners have won the Big 12 each of the last five years. In four of those seasons, Oklahoma has reached the College Football Playoff. Unfortunately, OU has gone 0-for in all four of its national semifinal games. Perhaps Rattler is the quarterback who can change the Sooners’ postseason fortune in the coming years?

This is why you sign up to play college football at a place like Oklahoma: to win championships. While winning the Big 12 every year and sending any quarterback with an arm to New York is wonderful, it would be even better if the Sooners can get on the same level as Clemson, Ohio State and the upper tier of the SEC in the postseason. Maybe Rattler can do that for them?

In due time, the Rattler era of Sooners football will be upon us, and it will be most glorious.
