Trevor Lawrence among those who will lead an on-campus protest at Clemson.

Trevor Lawrence and several of his Clemson football teammates will march in protest Saturday.

Lawrence along with three of his Clemson teammates in wide receiver Cornell Powell, running back Darien Rencher and linebacker Mike Jones Jr., have organized an on-campus protest in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and the fight for racial equality over the senseless murder of George Floyd by the Minneapolis Police weeks ago.

Clemson has been right at the center of this due in large part to its head coach Dabo Swinney continuing to be obvious to what’s going on in the country. By saying stuff like he’s “just another football coach” and wearing “Football Matters” t-shirts, he’s been chastised by major sports media personalities like ESPN’s Paul Finebaum and FS1s’ Skip Bayless in the last week or so.

Though their head coach has shown a tremendous lack of leadership these last several days, we must applaud what Lawrence, Powell, Rencher and Jones are planning to do at Clemson with the rest of the student body on Saturday night.

While Lawrence is the biggest name of the four Clemson football players, Jones has been the one doing the heavy lifting to get this thing off the ground.

ESPN reports, “Jones has worked for several weeks on collecting masks and bottled water to ensure safety for the participants.” Jones even had a lengthy Instagram Live session to explain his thoughts on all that’s going on.”

“How can we change if somebody doesn’t know how that made you feel, making them feel you?” Jones said on Instagram Live. “That’s the reason we’re going to change things. So many people are voicing how they feel, and it was something people never cared to know — or maybe just didn’t know.”

Together, Clemson will do its part to help bring awareness to these important issues and fight against racism in the United States of America. The protest is schedule to begin on Saturday, June 13 at 6:00 p.m. ET at Bowman Field on the Clemson campus.

This is the type of leadership we love to see out of the future leaders of America.
