Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson helped create custom cleats in honor of George Floyd.

The NFL’s reaction to the George Floyd protests occurring in Minneapolis and elsewhere has been overwhelmingly positive. The likes of Patrick Mahomes, Richard Sherman and stars around the shield have ensured this movement has all the teeth it needs, and won’t fall out of the news cycle anytime soon.

By forcing commissioner Roger Goodell to acknowledge the league’s mistakes in dealing with the protests sparked by Colin Kaepernick four years ago, the NFL is in better position to move forward in a season that’s sure to be filled with shoutouts for social causes.

While merely a blip on the radar in comparison to financial contributions and marches across the country, Philadelphia Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson is bringing awareness to this subject through graphic art, as he teamed up with a designer to produce some slick kicks with the message to boot.

Jackson, a reliable veteran at this point in his career, will provide a speed threat for Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, assuming he can stay healthy this season. That wasn’t the case in 2019, as Jackson missed significant time with a core muscle injury and was placed on IR. A longer offseason has provided D-Jax with more time to heal away from team facilities, and prepare for his age-34 season in style.

Athletes across the spectrum have found unique ways to honor Floyd, and provide even more awareness to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Jackson, an African-American from Long Beach, California, opted to use the pain and suffering felt by so many in his community as a creative force to prolong the impact of a movement. Whether these are sported in an NFL game or not, they send a positive, hopeful message to a society that could desperately use it.
