2. How good can Kyle Trask be?

For some, this might be the biggest question that Florida football is facing in the 2020 season and, in many cases, that’s accurate. Whether it was under Jim McElwain at the end of his tenure or in the early parts of Mullen taking over, the Gators have been searching for a reliable signal-caller that can offer more to the defense other than hoping and praying he doesn’t make mistakes.

Kyle Trask brought that to the Florida football offense last season when he took over the starting job early in the season following an injury to Feleipe Franks. He performed phenomenally overall, completing 66.9 percent of his passes for 2,941 yards, 25 touchdowns and only seven interceptions while also rushing for four touchdowns.

The question now becomes what the next step is for the quarterback or if he even has one. It’s worth noting that, in Florida’s pair of losses last season, Trask played well as he threw for roughly 600 yards with five touchdowns and only one interception in the matchups against LSU and rival Georgia. But for this team to reach the SEC Championship or College Football Playoff, Trask needs to find that next gear.

Given what he showed as the starter with limited game experience to that point, it’s reasonable to believe that Trask has that next level that he can unlock. But how much of a step forward and how far that can lead Florida is the big unknown that will be a defining factor in the Gators’ 2020 campaign.
