The BYU football schedule gets a bit more manageable in October.

875. 41. 861. Prediction. 17

Oct. 2 vs Utah State

The BYU Cougars start off October with their second in-state rival, the Utah State Aggies. The Cougars have seen more success in this rivalry compared to other, going back-and-forth over the last decade, but leading the series with a 49-37-3 record, including last season’s 42-14 victory. The Cougars will be desperate for a win to jump-start their season and this rivalry game comes at the perfect time. BYU takes control early and never looks back, getting back into the win Column. BYU, 41-17.

Oct. 10 vs Missouri

34. 822. 38. 861. Prediction

Since winning the SEC East in 2013 and 2014, the Missouri Tigers have struggled to re-establish their footing in the conference. In 2019, the Tigers started the season 5-1 but followed it up with losing five straight games, before winning their final game of the season. Both teams will both use this game as a deciding point of their season, whether it be a winning season with a bowl appearance or lost season, with a sub .500 record. This matchup will be a shootout, as both offenses will have a field day, but the Cougars grab a late lead and hold onto it, getting them back to .500. BYU, 38-24.

Oct. 16 vs Houston

36. 881. 29. 861. Prediction

The Cougars have won two games in a row and are back at .500 entering their game against the Houston Cougars. These teams have only met twice, 2013 and 2014, and BYU was victorious in both. The Houston Cougars had a pretty interesting year in 2019, that led to star quarterback D’Eriq King to redshirt after four games, and then he transferred to Miami this offseason. So there are plenty of questions surrounding Houston entering 2020, but Dana Holgerson is an offensive mastermind and will have Houston back up and running. And this game is a sign of things to come as Houston steals a victory over BYU, dropping the Cougars below .500. Houston, 36-29.

Oct. 24 at Northern Illinois

If the Cougars enter their matchup vs. Northern Illinois with a losing record, anything short of a win will mark the 2020 season as a failure even with a month of football left to be played. BYU has balanced out their schedule pretty well up until to this point but can’t avoid another slip up against a lesser opponent, especially at this point of the season. But don’t worry BYU fans, this road game versus a MAC opponent poses no threat to the Cougars season, as BYU takes care of business on both offense and defense. BYU, 34-13.
