Liverpool are on the verge of sealing their first top league title in 30 years, but when can they actually win the Premier League?

Liverpool sit at the top of the Premier League table, 25 points clear, on track to win their first Premier League title and their first top flight trophy in 30 years, as the league restarts on Wednesday.

The current European champions need only two wins, or any combination of six points, from their last nine matches. The league can be clinched sooner if second place Manchester City slip up against Arsenal on the June 17 — allowing Liverpool to bag the title against local rivals Everton in their first game back on the 21st.

The Reds have an interesting run of remaining games that are sure to be exciting, first playing the derby away against Everton before welcoming Crystal Palace to Anfield. If the league is not wrapped up by that point, Liverpool then travel to second-place Manchester City — a crucial game that can see the Reds finish off the only team with any slim chance of catching them.

Games against Villa, Brighton, Burnley, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle would follow. Mathematically, it seems all but guaranteed that Liverpool will lift the Premier League trophy. Needing just six points from nine remaining games, it will be one of the biggest slips in soccer history if they miss out on the title.

What records can Liverpool break on the way?

Manchester City hold the record for the highest Premier League points tally, with a high of 100 at the end of the 2017-18 season. Jurgen Klopp’s side can smash this, reaching 109 if they win all of their remaining games. They have room to lose two matches and draw two matches while still beating this record.

City also hold the record for the biggest points gap between title winners and their second place competition, with a 19 point margin. Liverpool currently hold a 25 point lead, so the Reds could also break that record in their push for the title.

Liverpool need six wins from their final nine games in order to break the record for the most Premier League wins in a season — a record also held by City, who notched 32 in both 2017-18 and 2018-19.

Key matches when Liverpool’s title could be won?

Liverpool vs. Everton will be the first (and most exciting) chance that Liverpool can win the Premier League if City lose their match against Arsenal.

Following that, if the Reds win the derby they could seal the deal against Palace at Anfield, however the next most interesting fixture would be that against rivals City. They could knock their pursuers down by winning the league and helping Leicester City catch up, jeopardizing even City’s second place position.

One thing is for sure, Liverpool have been a magnificent team worth watching all season, and they have a habit for making history. Their first league title in 30 years is likely to come with a little more.
