1. Brennan isn’t Burrow — but is he the goods?

Myles Brennan is the elephant in the room for LSU football. That’s neither a good or bad indication about what that means but rather just a statement to declare that the Tigers’ ceiling in the 2020 season very much depends on what the quarterback is able to do as he attempts to fill Burrow’s shoes.

Asking anyone to replicate what Burrow did last season is a fool’s errand. He threw for 5,671 yards, 60 touchdowns and six interceptions with five rushing scores as well. Brennan isn’t going to match that and no one expects him to. He is a Heisman dark horse candidate, however. The question is if he can be an upgrade from what the program trotted out under Orgeron prior to Burrow’s arrival and uprising.

We have seen unbelievably little from Brennan in his career to this point. The fourth-year junior, despite how dominant LSU was last season, threw only 40 passes last season, though he did complete 24 of those attempts for 353 yards. However, Orgeron has been nothing but confident and positive about what he’s capable of.

One thing that’s for sure is that we will know sooner rather than later whether or not Brennan can get the job done. However, if LSU is able to see him be a competent and productive quarterback with the weapons at his disposal, then they should see the Tigers be in a position to challenge for the SEC West once again.
