Oct. 3: Baylor at Oklahoma

860. 45. 815. Prediction. 21

The Oklahoma Sooners face a week’s worth of questions from national college football reporters. Is their dominance of the Big 12 about to come to an end? The Baylor Bears gave the Sooners their biggest test last season, and they return quarterback Charlie Brewer. The Sooners have looked mediocre to start, and they don’t look like they’re ready for the high-flying offenses of the Big 12. Then, this matchup happens. Rattler throws for four touchdowns, Brooks scores three total touchdowns, including a 35-yard screen to the house. Baylor could not keep up with the defensive schemes of the Sooners, who threw the kitchen sink at their rivals to prove a point. This is still the Sooners, and they can score with just about anyone.

Oct. 10: Oklahoma vs. Texas

815. 34. 851. Prediction. 35

This rivalry game is always fun. The Texas Longhorns are falling under the radar this season after getting nowhere near expectations last season. The Texas Longhorns bring back Sam Ehlinger, who we have as one of the best Heisman Trophy candidates in the country. He puts Texas up 21-7 in the second quarter with a touchdown drive right at the end of the half.

A different Oklahoma team comes out of the locker room. They immediately scored on a reverse to Theo Howard. Then, Texas scores on their next drive, but the kicker missed the extra point. That gives Oklahoma a vote of confidence. They score on their next two drives with a fast-paced offense, making it 28-27 Sooners going into the fourth quarter. An interception of Ehlinger gives them the ball on the Texas 25, and they end up going up by eight.

Texas immediately scores, and since there are about eight minutes left Tom Herman decides to go for the extra point instead of trying to tie it with a two-point conversion. That would be a decision that would haunt him because Oklahoma never lets them close to the red zone again and Texas loses by that single point they left on the board.

Oct. 17: Oklahoma at Iowa State

Prediction. 38. 815. 28. 837

The Sooners are right back at it against another tough Big 12 opponent, right after the two hardest opponents in the division in back-to-back weeks. Iowa State did not end up as formidable as we thought they’d be last season, but quarterback Brock Purdy is back. Some are saying he could become one of the best quarterbacks in college football this season. He does a lot in this game, breaking 300 yards and throwing for four touchdowns. However, the Sooners make sure they eliminate the running game, which causes a ton of clock stoppages because the Cyclones are forced to constantly throw. They end up scoring three touchdowns on the ground and keep a fair distance from their opponent all game.

Oct. 24: Oklahoma State at Oklahoma

35. 856. 31. 815. Prediction

Well, it seems all good things must come to an end, and that includes Oklahoma’s run of dominance on the best of the Big 12. This one was a barn burner where Chuba Hubbard went mono y mono against Kennedy Brooks. Hubbard went off in this game, putting up three scores and 175 yards against a Sooners defense that is just tired after a month’s worth of great matchups. Brooks himself gets two scores and over 100 yards, but the Sooners lose to the Cowboys for just the third time since 2003.

Oct. 31: Oklahoma at TCU

815. 10. 872. Prediction. 31

The Oklahoma Sooners play almost as if they have a monkey off their back when they head to TCU. Losing to Oklahoma State drives them to score early, with two touchdowns in the first quarter. They never looked back as the lead was never less than two scores. Max Duggan is going to be completely overwhelmed this whole game and Oklahoma forces him to throw two interceptions and lose a fumble. It’s a bad day for the Horned Frogs.
