Wake Forest transfer Jamie Newman is the favorite to start at QB for Georgia, and he’s confident about his NFL future.

Jamie Newman claims he put on six pounds of muscle during quarantine in an upcoming season that will signify his best chance to make an impression on NFL scouts ahead of the 2021 Draft. Facing improved defenses in the SEC — a reason he’s previously given for transferring to Athens in the first place — will either expose or enlighten Newman as one of the more divisive prospects in the conference.

Newman is confident, and that is something no pundit can take away from him.

Georgia’s Jamie Newman compares himself to several current and former NFL quarterbacks.

Newman’s dual-threat ability is something Georgia’s offense hasn’t featured in years with Jake Fromm at the helm, and an asset Todd Monken should be enthusiastic about employing into the Bulldogs’ scheme.

Newman is in a battle with JT Daniels, Dwan Mathis and Carson Beck, but is the clear favorite to land the starting job in part due to his NFL prospects. While most are taking a wait and see approach to Newman’s professional expectations, his goals for himself are already sky high.

“Steve McNair, he’s one of the guys I feel like I’m similar to; big, country strong, tough competitor,” Newman said.  “Of course Cam Newton. I’ve been a Cam Newton fan since probably middle school when he first came out.”

Newman also cited Donovan McNabb as an ideal comparison for his play-style. The three quarterbacks, including the now-deceased McNair, combined for 12 Pro Bowls (and counting, considering Newton is still playing).

The offense around Newman should allow him the opportunity to impress with gaudy numbers, specifically with receiver George Pickens returning to Athens, and Zamir White finally healthy after his devastating ACL injury.

Expecting major things from Newman isn’t just his confidence showing, it’s justified.
