5 reasons Dwayne Haskins can make the Redskins respectable
2. Ron Rivera will help him mature
Rivera isn’t necessarily known as an offensive-minded coach, but that doesn’t mean he won’t really help Haskins grow up. Washington’s new head coach can draw on his experience working with Cam Newton in Carolina to help Haskins adjust to life in the NFL.

The two quarterbacks aren’t similar in terms of style of play, but neither came into the league with a great deal of comfort playing in a pro-style offense. Rivera understands how to make sure he doesn’t overwhelm a young quarterback by asking him to do too much, too soon.
Rivera might help Haskins more mentally than physically. He does a great job of commanding a locker room and helping his players focus more on football than anything else. Haskins shouldn’t be too concerned with emerging as a big-time leader in 2020, he just needs to show his offensive teammates that he has the tools required to become an above-average starter.
Haskins needs to learn how to walk and talk like an NFL starting quarterback this year. Rivera’s strong presence at the helm of the Redskins ship is going to help him accomplish that goal. At the very least, he’ll look like a credible NFL starter this season under Rivera’s watchful eye.
