5 teams that could trade for Jets running back Le’Veon Bell
2. Buffalo Bills
After a pretty good run down the stretch of his rookie season, the Bills seemed likely to see what Devin Singletary has as the clear No.1 back this year. But then they drafted Zack Moss in the third round, and he’s in line to take over the role Frank Gore occupied last year. If you’re thinking in fantasy terms, that’s enough to dampen Singletary’s outlook as a breakout candidate.
Buffalo is carrying just over $20.4 million in cap space right now (according to Over The Cap). The AFC East is there for the taking this year, with the Patriots losing Tom Brady and looking vulnerable, so the Bills are easily tabbed as the favorite to win the division. So any calculated win-now moves, along the same line as the offseason trade for wide receiver Stefon Diggs, are surely still on the radar.
A lagging running game is simply not an option for the Bills. Putting the offensive game plan on Josh Allen’s scatter shot arm is not ideal, nor is it going to happen. So if a “Lightning and Thunder” backfield (Singletary and Moss) is not really working, a move to shake things up could land on the table. A trade for Bell somewhere around early October could be that move, even if it pushes Moss aside for the rest of his rookie season and Singletary’s role is automatically diminished.
