This week, the PGA Tour presents the Draftkings community with the Travelers Championship!  This event’s field is stacked with talent, including world number one Rory McIlroy.

Before I dive into my Draftkings player selections let’s take a quick look at the golf course the field will play and the key player statistics that I feel are the most vital to a golfer’s success this week.

The Travelers Championship will be played at the TPC River Highlands. The golf course is a par 70 that measures 6,841 yards. This course is a tree lined track that features only a few water hazards. In 2016, a PGA Tour renovation of this golf course directed the removal of over 50 bunkers. The Travelers Championship has been played at TPC River Highlands every year since 1984. It should also be noted that this golf course is a Pete Dye design.

The key statistics that I will be focusing on this week are: par four scoring, overall putting average, strokes gained approach, and strokes gained tee to green.

Let’s shift our focus to what I love doing the most! Here are my Draftkings player selections for the 2020 Travelers Championship.

Bubba Watson $8,800

Watson has always been the type of golfer that just tends to perform at a high level on specific golf courses on the PGA Tour schedule. Bubba’s previous wins on the PGA Tour certainly support my previous statement. Watson has eight wins at three different golf tournaments on the PGA Tour. Watson has won the Genesis three times, the Travelers Championship three times, and the Masters at Augusta National three times.

Bubba certainly fits narrative as a course horse at TPC Highlands. Bubba’s previous results at the Travelers Championship have been simply outstanding. Here are some of his previous results at this event that popped off the page for me: 2008-sixth, 2009-14th, 2010-win, 2012-second, 2013-fourth, 2015-won, 2018-won.

Watson also checks the box for me when it comes to current form. Bubba has four top 18 finishes in 2020, including a seventh place result at the Charles Schwab Challenge earlier this month.

Justin Rose $9,200

The 2013 United States Open champion has been playing some outstanding golf over the last two weeks. More specifically, Rose arrives at this week’s event on the heels of two consecutive top 14 finishes, including a third place result at the Charles Schwab Challenge two weeks ago.

Abraham Ancer $9,000

The 29 year old Mexican has four top 14 finishes in 2020, including a second place result at last week’s RBC Heritage. Ancer also finished eighth at the 2019 Travelers Championship.

Joaquin Niemann $7,900

Niemann finished fifth at the 2019 Travelers Championship. Additionally, Niemann has two top five finishes on the PGA Tour in 2020, including a fifth place result at the RBC Heritage last week.

Brian Harman $7,600

He ranks 11th in overall putting average (1.564) on the PGA Tour. Harman has three previous top eight finishes at the Travelers Championship. Additionally, Harman arrives at this week’s event with two consecutive top 28 finishes on the PGA Tour.

Tyler Duncan $6,500

Duncan captured his first PGA Tour win at the RSM Classic in November. He has two previous top 43 finishes at the Travelers Championship, including a 33rd place finish in 2018. He also finished 28th at last week’s RBC Heritage. Duncan arrives on the slate at the low Draftkings price of $6,500. I think Duncan presents nice upside at that low cost.
