2021 NFL Mock Draft: Trevor Lawrence goes to Jacksonville
It is debatable at best whether Dave Gettleman will still be in his general manager’s position to make this selection if the Giants are again picking in the top five.
Gettleman has displayed little regard for positional value during his tenure and is unlikely to be averse to taking a linebacker this high.
However, with Parsons, the Giants would arguably be justified in doing so.
Among the premier defensive players in college football, Parsons is coming off a tremendously productive season for the Nittany Lions. With 109 total tackles including 14 for a loss, five sacks, four forced fumbles and five pass breakups, there was not an area of the game Parsons did not impact in the 2019 season.
The Giants invested heavily in the linebacker position in the offseason but is debatable whether they actually got any better at that spot, with the signings of former Packers Blake Martinez and Kyler Fackrell curious ones after Green Bay’s linebackers were ruthlessly exposed in the postseason.
Parsons can come in and instantly start for the Giants and, regardless of whether it is Gettleman making the selection next April, the 2019 Big Ten linebacker of the year should be firmly on their radar.
