Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. QB. Woodrow Dantzler. player. (1997-01). 3. 879

Woody Dantzler was a dual-threat quarterback for Clemson football.

Clemson has had plenty of terrific quarterbacks over the last 25 years. Deshaun Watson is starring these days with the Houston Texans. Trevor Lawrence will be in the NFL by this time next year. Tajh Boyd became an all-time passer while at Clemson. We even think fondly of Charlie Whitehurst’s lengthy career as an NFL backup. But what about Woodrow Dantzler?

Dantzler came to Clemson in 1997 during a period of change for the program. He redshirted that season and began starting for the Tigers the following year in 1998. Dantzler’s dual-threat playmaking abilities made him a star player in the early years of the Tommy Bowden era of Clemson football.

As a redshirt senior in 2001, Dantzler became an All-ACC player, as he completed 60.5 percent of his passes for 2,360 yards, 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. As a runner, he had 206 carries for 1,004 yards and 10 trips to pay dirt. Dantzler became the first quarterback in college football history to throw for over 2,000 yards and rush for over 1,000 yards in the same season.

Dantzler went undrafted in 2002, playing in the NFL the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Falcons. He played professionally as a receiver in other football leagues through the 2010 season. Dantzler ended up with 5,639 passing yards for 36 touchdowns and 23 interceptions in his college career. He also had 558 carries for 2,623 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns on the ground.
