NXT Results: Keith Lee wins in main event.

As the WWE reels from news about new COVID-19 positive tests, another taped edition of NXT was presented to the viewing public. The main event featured an important triple threat for the NXT North American title, with the winner getting a shot at the NXT championship next week.

The night opened with Burlington, North Carolina native Cameron Grimes against Damian Priest. Priest was attacked backstage but still appeared at the ring with his midsection taped. Grimes took advantage of the situation, attacking the ribs of the big man both inside and outside the ring. Grimes hit his Cave In on the outside, but Priest found his way back into the ring before the 10-count. That would not stop Grimes from hitting the move a second time to get the pin and the victory.

NXT Cruiserweight champion Santos Escobar had his first match since unmasking a few weeks ago. He faced off against Jake Atlas, who was attempting to defend the honor of Drake Maverick. Atlas would fall short in the attempt however, as Escobar defeated Atlas in the middle of the ring.

The budding feud between the team of Kayden Carter and Kacy Catanzaro versus Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez continued as they met in a tag team match. Catanzaro and Carter gave up a lot of size to Gonzalez, but they put up a valiant fight. Still, the situation went from bad to worse when Gonzalez hit a massive one-hand power bomb on Catanzaro, leaving her for Kai to lock on the submission to get the finish.

Bronson Reed took a big step last week when he called out Karrion Kross for a one-on-one match. He would get his wish this week, but it would not go his way. Reed took the fight to Kross from the start, but nothing he landed seemed to slow Kross down. Kross hit multiple suplexes before locking in a modified head-arm triangle to get the tap.

Earlier in the evening, Robert Stone once again attempted to get Rhea Ripley to join the Robert Stone Brand. She answered by throwing him into the trash can. Aliyah did not appreciate Ripley doing that to her manager and slapped the former NXT Women’s champion in the face, setting up a match on the show. The match went as expected, with Ripley beating Aliyah mercilessly throughout the ring. Stone attempted to make a distraction, but even that would not be enough as Ripley hit the Rip Tide and pinned Aliyah for the win.

Roderick Strong can’t face Dexter Lumis

Roderick Strong has spent the last few weeks trying to get over his fear of Dexter Lumis. The next step in his therapy was to face Lumis in a match. Strong hesitated entering the ring, entering and exiting multiple times. Lumis slowly approached Strong, which resulted in him running away from the ring and accepting the loss via count out.

The main event of the evening featured a triple threat match for the NXT North American title. Current champion Keith Lee was forced to defend his title against former champions Johnny Gargano and Finn Balor.

Gargano and Balor would focus their aim on Lee to start the match. Even though they had the two-on-one advantage, Lee’s strength allowed him to throw both men around the ring. The tide would turn in favor of Gargano and Balor when they would get Lee outside of the ring and cause him to crash into the steel steps. That led to Gargano and Balor battling in the ring until Lee made his presence felt. The end would come when Lee would hit a Big Bang Catastrophe on Gargano then one on Balor. He pinned the former NXT champion to keep his title and get a shot at Adam Cole next week.

Next week’s edition on NXT is titled Great American Bash as a throwback to the classic WCW PPV event. Cole will defend his title against Lee, while there is a women’s four-way match to determine the No. 1 contender to Io Shirai’s NXT Women’s title.
