Old school fans know how important Lenny Moore is to Penn State football history.

On the offensive side of the ball, the running back position is where Penn State is best known for. Saquon Barkley, Larry Johnson, Curt Warner and the Nittany Lions lone Heisman Trophy winner, John Cappelletti are all names that come to mind when discussing the best running backs Penn State has had.

But what about the original best back of all-time? The one who once held nearly every Penn State rushing record. The one that would go onto win NFL rookie of the year in 1956, won two NFL Championships, and be named a First-Team All-Pro five times, and Second-Team All-Pro two times, all in a nine-year career.

If you don’t know who this is, it’s time to learn who Lenny Moore was and why he is one of the greatest running backs Penn State has ever had. In his time at Penn State, Moore ran for over 2,300 yards and 23 touchdowns, all while averaging over six yards a carry and he did this in just three years. Penn State wasn’t the program it is now nor was it close to the success it’s seen between now and then but Moore was the biggest highlight prior to the Paterno Era.

Moore was not only the fastest player on the field at all times but also one of the most athletic players on the field. The accolades and accomplishments Moore achieved in both his college and pro career, not only make him one of the most underrated players in Penn State history but one of the best Penn State players ever.
