Apparently, Colin Cowherd forgot who Patrick Mahomes is.

There are bad takes and then there’s whatever Colin Cowherd said about quarterback arm talent.

The popular FS1 television/radio host listed his top five arm talents in the NFL on his show, The Herd with Colin Cowherd, on Friday. While it might be a slow day in the news cycle, not only did Cowherd fail to put Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes at the No. 1 spot, but the Super Bowl 54 MVP didn’t even crack his top five! How is that even possible?

In the No. 1 spot, Cowherd shamelessly put his favorite player from his favorite team from his childhood in Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks. Wilson is arguably the second best quarterback in football after Mahomes and having him in the top five isn’t particularly cringeworthy. But No. 1? Come on!

After that he had a pair of 40-year-olds in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Tom Brady and the New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees at No. 2 and No. 3. Are these two of the 10 best quarterbacks in NFL history? Without question. However, Brady hasn’t had a gun for a right arm in years and Brees never did. He benefits from playing in a dome in a southern climate and has done so for years!

In the No. 4 spot, Cowherd has Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals. Again, this isn’t bad, but the former first-round pick of the Oakland Athletics has more of that middle infielder baseball arm of Brees and Wilson than a hose like some of the other guys not included on this list. Jared Goff and his beautiful deep ball of the Los Angeles Rams comes in at No. 5. Where do we even begin here?

Colin Cowherd’s definition of NFL arm talent is a new take on arm talent.

If Cowherd put together a top-five that wouldn’t send his FS1 colleague Nick Wright or his former colleague Jason Whitlock into a frenzy, here is what it probably should have looked like. Mahomes has to be No. 1 with a bullet. Wilson can stay in the top-five, but we need to have at least Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers and Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions ahead of him.

For that last spot, you could argue for the likes of Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, Goff of the Rams or maybe even Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The only thing that was missing from this Cowherd list was Sam Darnold of the New York Jets cracking the top-five. If this list’s intention was to rile of Chiefs fans, it worked and now Cowherd can’t have KC BBQ anytime soon.

The weirdest thing about the NFL arm talent graphic is it didn’t seem to even remotely encapsulate what is deemed as NFL arm talent: Does the guy have a gun or not? At their peak, guys like Joe Flacco and Cam Newton had the hoses to make this list. That’s why guys like Allen, Mahomes, Rodgers and Stafford need to be on there with either Wilson or Goff. It’s that obvious.

I’s just a list, but it doesn’t seem like Cowherd will be making his first trek to Kansas City this year.
