11. player. 29. . Big. San Antonio Spurs. James Wiseman

It may seem lazy to hand any hypothetical project to the Spurs and just assume their staff will get the most out of them, but they do kind of have a track record. Wiseman was in contention for the No. 1 pick when the year began but a season disrupted by injury and NCAA suspension didn’t do him any favors. And the minutes he was actually on the court raised more questions then they answered.

Wiseman is an enormous and special athlete, standing 7-foot-1 with terrific strength and leaping ability. However, his skills are still raw and his awareness, decision-making and effort at both ends of the floor put a lot of distance between his present and his potential ceiling. The Spurs generally don’t take big risks and burning a lottery pick on Wiseman is a risk. But they have Dejounte Murray, Lonnie Walker and Derrick White in place and if they’re thinking about the next two-decade run of playoff appearances, the chance to develop a special big man might be worth it.
