3. Oklahoma football preseason questions: Can wide receiver group step up with Lamb gone?

This is not a groundbreaking statement but CeeDee Lamb was incredibly good for Oklahoma football. After emerging as a star in 2018, he took up that role no problem last season and led the pass-catching group in a major way. Lamb notched 1,327 yards on 62 receptions with 14 touchdowns, averaging an insane 21.4 yards per catch. Now on the Dallas Cowboys, though, there are now some major concerns about what the wide receiver group is going to look like without Lamb.

One thing that Oklahoma and the offense can hopefully hang their hats on is the performance of Charleston Rambo. While he might not be as dynamic of a playmaker as Lamb, he flashed some big-time potential last season, catching 43 passes for 743 yards and five touchdowns, all of which were second on the team by a mile. Unfortunately, the other options that the Sooners were hoping to have are not panning out before the season has even gotten underway.

A highly touted recruit, Jadon Haselwood was expected to potentially break out in 2020 but an offseason injury may keep him sidelined all season. Meanwhile, UCLA graduate transfer Theo Howard has also been dealing with the injury bug as well. That could mean someone we don’t expect stepping up alongside Rambo or Riley directing more of his offense to tight end/H-back Jeremiah Hall, a player who offers a dynamic skill set at his position.

Regardless, the wide receiver room is anything but certain without Lamb.
