Everyone should be paying attention to what’s going on with Under Armour and UCLA.

Under Armour is one of the most well-known sports brands in America so it’s not shocking to see it trending on Twitter. Unfortunately, it’s not because they introduced a thrilling new product — instead, they are entering what could be a tumultuous time with another famed institution – the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA).

Here’s what we know about the deal between Under Armour and UCLA

It emerged on Saturday afternoon that Under Armour had terminated it’s 15-year, $280 million apparel deal with the college and that’s going to be a whole big thing.

When the deal was signed in 2016 it was the biggest sports apparel deal in history, so it’s no shock that the unamicable end of the said deal would be something to pay attention to. Not only is the deal ending early (amid a pandemic) it’s not even the pandemic that’s the cause of the severance.

“We have been paying for marketing benefits that we have not received for an extended time period,” the company said in a statement. “The agreement allows us to terminate in such an event and we are exercising that right.”

Needless to say UCLA’s Athletic Director, Dan Guerrero, was none to happy and announced they’d be fighting it.

This is like a modern-day sports soap opera and we are watching the two series leads battling an ugly divorce. Ok, so maybe it’s not that dramatic but there are no sports so give me my simple pleasures.

It’s important to pay attention here because however the courts (eventually) decide to settle this, it will be big news. Stay focused on FanSided for all your sports and entertainment news.
