Alabama mayor resigns after comments on Alabama football’s BLM video.
An Alabama mayor has resigned after criticizing Alabama football’s Black Lives Matter video.
The Alabama Crimson Tide football team put together a two-minute Black Lives Matter video late last week, as teammates and head coach Nick Saban read aloud offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood‘s poem on the social justice movement. It was tweeted out on the team’s official account on June 25. While most viewed it positively, one mayor of a nearby town had his disparaging comments on it.
Carbon Hill mayor Mark Chambers turned in his letter of resignation on Saturday after the comments he made on the video and the Alabama football team. Per ESPN, “A Facebook post from Chambers on Saturday said he was selling his photos of the Alabama football team and head coach Nick Saban because of their ‘sorry’ political views. He said ‘the Tide is done in my opinion.'”

This isn’t the first time Chambers’ comments on certain issues have gotten him into hot water. Per ESPN, “Chambers previously faced scrutiny last year for complaining on social media about “baby killers” and “socialists,” saying “homosexuals lecture us on morals” and “transvestites lecture us on human biology.”
This is a bigoted mayor who used to governor roughly 2,000 people in a town outside of the state’s biggest city in Birmingham. Tuscaloosa is not all that far away from Birmingham. Going after Saban and his Crimson Tide program was yet another bad take by this former Alabama mayor. Hopefully, Carbon Hill can elect someone without this much hate in his heart.
Attacking Alabama football for doing something positive is one way to lose your elected position.
