Georgia football: 5 recruits most likely to sign with Georgia Bulldogs
By John Buhler
There are few position groups Georgia dominates of late in recruitment quite like they do along the offensive line. It became apparent nationally when former offensive line coach Sam Pittman was leading the way in recruitment. But with him now leading the Arkansas Razorbacks program, it’ll be up to former Ole Miss Rebels head coach Matt Luke to keep a guy like Amarius Mims in-state.
Mims is a five-star from Cochran, Georgia. The Bleckley County High School standout is 6-foot-7 and 315 pounds. He is the No. 1 player from Georgia on the 247Sports Composite, the No. 2 offensive tackle prospect in the country and the No. 6 overall player in his class. Given that Cochran is centrally located in the state, there are no excuses for Luke to come up short here.
The good news is Luke is a hell of a recruiter and a fantastic line coach. So what if it didn’t work out with him leading his alma mater? That job felt like only a temporary one once the Hugh Freeze scandal manifested itself. Luke was Greg Little’s primary recruiter to Ole Miss and the secondary recruiter on Laremy Tunsil, a player Ole Miss famously landed over the likes a school like Georgia.
Mims is drawing interest from the usual southeastern suspects like the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Auburn Tigers, the Clemson Tigers and the LSU Tigers. However, it feels like an early two-team race for Mims between Georgia and Alabama. Will Luke have what it takes to keep Sal Sunseri and Kyle Flood at bay? As with Smael Mondon, Georgia can’t let an in-state player go to a rival team.
