Heavyweight rankings: A deeper look at the top five
There is nothing quite like the excitement of a heavyweight championship fight.
The buildup is different, the pre-fight buzz is different, and there is a different level of suspense when you watch two big men fight, knowing it can end at any second. That is why the heavyweight champion of the world has always been the baddest man on the planet.
For years, heavyweight boxing was perceived as dead because of a lack of talent, or more specifically, a lack of competition. The division was run exclusively by the Klitschko brothers for nearly a decade, and in that time they were barely losing rounds.
However, with the official end of the Klitschko era, boxing’s glamour division is in the midst of a revival, with three elite heavyweights to go thanks to a nice pool of talented challengers.
