2. Can the Miami offensive line make strides?

For as talented as King is, for as good as running back Cam’ron Harris can be in a featured role (114 carries, 576 yards in 2019), and for as much upside as the pass-catching group possesses in this new offense, there’s one thing that could derail it all. If the offensive line plays as poorly in 2020 as they did in the 2019 season, the offense is going to have a bear of a time getting anything going consistently.

No Power 5 team in college football gave up as many sacks (51) as Miami did in the 2019 season. While the shortcomings at quarterback and on the sidelines were part of the equation, that certainly didn’t help anything. But as things are looking now, the truth is that the Canes are banking on that unit improving with new coaching and in a spread offense as their top six players on the front return for the 2020 campaign.

The big hope for the Hurricanes isn’t that these six players all become all-world players in the trenches but, rather, that new offensive line coach Garin Justice, a guy with experience working in spread concepts, will be able to pull more out of these players upon his arrival.

King’s mobility is going to be a huge factor in the Miami offense regardless but the ideal situation would be to take advantage of that as a luxury, not having to rely on it as a necessity. That hinges on the performance of the offensive line, which means that they can’t be allowing enough pressure to give up 50-plus sacks for the second straight year.
