3. Chicago Bears

The transition from Vic Fangio to Chuck Pagano in 2019 got off to a slow start and the Bears’ run defense was exposed on more than one occasion. But after leading the NFL with 36 takeaways and totaling 50 sacks, Khalil Mack and company slipped in a big way. Having Akiem Hicks and Danny Trevathan healthy will be a huge plus.

2. Denver Broncos

The team started off slow on this side of the ball this match season but once the Broncos got their footing under Vic Fangio and Ed Donatell, they were formidable. The club finished with 40 sacks and allowed just 28 offensive TDs. And GM John Elway added defensive tackle Jurrell Casey and cornerback A.J. Bouye via a pair of trades.

1. San Francisco 49ers

Nick Bosa was the second overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and he made an immediate impact on a defensive front already full of former first-rounders. When it was all said and done, only the Patriots allowed fewer yards and no team was stingier vs. the pass. It will be interesting to see how much this unit misses DeForest Buckner.
