1. Is Texas football back? For real this time? How close if not?

It’s the age-old question: Is Texas back? We ask it every year and, for many years, even when the answer was yes coming into a given season, the Longhorns had a way of answering that with a disappointing no as the year wore on. It happened just a year ago too when they followed up a 10-win season by going 8-5. But the question is on the table again entering 2020. The answer, though, is not yet definitive.

If Chris Ash’s switch to a 4-3 defense goes swimmingly, the Longhorns might have one of the best defensive units in the Big 12. And if Yurcich can unlock a new level for Ehlinger as a quarterback with the weapons that are around him on offense, Texas could be able to put up points on any team in the country.

The problem is that those are big “ifs”, especially with a shortened offseason when players will have less time to work in and pick up these new systems. Furthermore, the Longhorns don’t have an easy slate in the 2020 season as they have to face LSU in Baton Rouge and are on the road to play Oklahoma State in addition to the annual Red River Rivalry game with Oklahoma.

Frankly, we won’t know if Texas is back until we see what this team looks like on both sides of the ball. However, if you’re an eternal optimist when it comes to the Longhorns being back, there is more than enough on paper to have you believe that will be the case in hopes that this is the time you don’t get burned for thinking that way.
