It doesn’t seem like Dez Bryant is getting his redemption season in 2020

Wide receiver Dez Bryant is hopeful for a 2020 season so that he can get back on the field, but even if there is a season, him getting another shot at glory seems unlikely.

The 2020 offseason has been a weird one that saw big names like Cam Newton taking until late June to sign while Jadeveon Clowney is remains unsigned.

On the other side of the coin though, there’s Dez Bryant, who hasn’t played an NFL snap since 2017 when he was with the Dallas Cowboys, but is still hoping for his “shot at redemption”.

Bryant did have a shot at redemption in 2018 when the New Orleans Saints brought him in during the back half of the regular season. Unfortunately, Bryant tore his achilles not long after and never played a down with the Saints.

Since then, Bryant has been attempting a comeback and even worked out with Patrick Mahomes and Mecole Hardman of the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this year. The Chiefs, despite being an offensive heavy team, don’t really have a spot for Bryant. They didn’t lose any offensive talent this offseason, so at best, Bryant would be a WR3 and even that seems like a stretch.

In 2017, which ended up being Bryant’s final season in the league, Bryant grabbed 69 receptions for 838 yards and six touchdowns for the Cowboys. That was his third straight season without racking up 1,000 yards receiving and even though he was 29 years old by  the end of the 2017 campaign, the writing appeared to be on the wall for Dez Bryant.

The sad reality for Bryant is that his NFL playing days are likely done. This probably would have been the case even without the COVID-19 pandemic, but that pandemic has made it difficult for even star players like Newton and Clowney to find employment. That doesn’t really bode well for a 31-year-old receiver who hasn’t played an NFL down since 2017.

Hopefully, Dez Bryant is able to make his return to the NFL, but right now, it isn’t looking good.
