Aaron Judge may not be ready to play a regular-season game quite yet, but the way he’s crushing the ball in this video shows he’s getting very close.

The Yankees aren’t convinced that Aaron Judge is going to be ready to play on Opening Day, but it’s safe to say that things are trending in the right direction for the All-Star slugger. In fact, video that surfaced of him crushing balls in batting practice on Thursday indicate Judge might be closer to full health than team officials have let on.

In fairness to GM Brian Cashman, he recently told reporters that he is “very optimistic” about Judge’s chances of being ready to go on Opening Day. The 28-year-old has taken advantage of the delay of the 2020 regular-season to recover from a fractured rib and collapsed lung. The team will not rush him back to action, but they do anticipate him being a big part of the upcoming campaign.

The fact that he’s already taking big swings in batting practice bodes well for his ability to make an immediate impact. The team might choose to give him more rest than normal given the density of this year’s schedule, but it would still be a major disappointment if he isn’t a consistent member of the team’s starting lineup.

Judge’s batting practice video already shows that he’s comfortable turning his body to drive the ball to left-field. That’s a clear indication that he is no longer feeling significant discomfort in his rib cage.

If Judge enters Spring Training with the ability to swing without limitation, then he has a very strong chance of starting the season in the heart of the Yankees’ order. That’s great news for an organization that’s desperate to end their World Series drought. Judge’s health will be a big factor as to whether or not New York can secure their 28th World Championship in 2020.
