MLB Rumors: 3 trade deadline targets the Milwaukee Brewers should consider
By Mike Luciano
Semien finally started to show glimpses of the player we thought he could be, coming in third in the MVP race last year after hitting .285 with 33 home runs while playing in every single game for the A’s last year. Why would they ever consider trading him? Well, Oakland’s power structure, from GM Billy Beane to owner John Fisher, is notoriously cheap, and Semien is scheduled to be a free agent after this season.
That confluence of circumstances could entice Oakland to deal him.
Even if the Brewers aren’t able to sign him to a contract extension upon the completion of this deal, they should try to make this happen if for no other reason than to massively upgrade over Orlando Arcia, who never developed into the hitter Milwaukee thought he would. Semien will require a few top prospects, but Milwaukee will get one of the best hitting infielders in the game in return, allowing them to hit him leadoff, Keston Hirua second, and Yelich third.
That trio could be enough to single-handedly win Milwaukee games if they’re all on at the same time.
