Patrick Mahomes is getting paid as it’s another reminder for Bears fans of what could have been.

Chicago Bears fans want to forget it ever happened, but it’s hard to block this out of the memory. The Bears didn’t take Patrick Mahomes and instead traded up to take Mitchell Trubisky with the No. 2 pick.

After three NFL seasons, Mahomes has an MVP, Super Bowl and a Super Bowl MVP to his name while Trubisky didn’t have his fifth-year option picked up and may lose his job to Nick Foles who was acquired in a trade for a fourth-round pick in the offseason.

With the news that the Chiefs have signed Mahomes to a 10-year extension that is the richest deal in NFL history, it’s another sad reminder of what could have been in Chicago.

If the Bears drafted Mahomes instead of Trubisky, they are likely in the Super Bowl two seasons ago with him leading that offense and the Khalil Mack-led defense on the other side of the ball.

Alas, that didn’t happen and it was the Chiefs that ended up winning a Super Bowl last season with Mahomes leading the comeback effort.

No matter how many I try to tell myself to let it go and to quit playing the what-if game, I can’t help but play the what-if game and wonder what Mahomes would have been able to do in a Bears uniform.

Of course, he wouldn’t have been blessed with Andy Reid as his head coach or Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins at his disposal.

But at the same time, it’s not like Allen Robinson is chopped liver either. In short, Mahomes would have been a star no matter where he ended up. It just so happens that Kansas City was the absolute best situation for him to land and it’s shown with his accolades and his new lucrative contract extension that will lock him up in Kansas City for the long haul.
