Duke basketball: 3 blue-chip recruits most likely to sign with Blue Devils
2. Duke basketball recruiting targets: PG Kennedy Chandler
Another great option for Duke in the 2021 class is Kennedy Chandler, a five-star point guard out of Memphis, TN. The Blue Devils are set to turn over the point guard spot to freshman Jeremy Roach this season but there is a good chance he will be a one-and-done player.
Chandler is not very tall at 6-foot-1, but he is an explosive athlete for someone of his stature. Scouts are impressed with Chandler’s ability to get to the basket and draw contact, setting him up for plenty of opportunities from the free-throw line.
Other areas of Chandler’s game that have drawn rave reviews include his passing, rugged defense and rebounding ability. Chandler does need work on his perimeter shot, but that is a minor flaw on an outstanding resume of skills for a young point guard.
Securing a commitment from Chandler could be challenging since a ton of elite programs are after him as well. The biggest threat could be Memphis, which has done a terrific job landing elite recruits since Penny Hardaway took over as their head coach in 2019.
Staying home in Memphis could make sense for Chandler, but the fit is obvious with Duke, which has a strong history of sending point guards off to the NBA. The odds are good that Chandler will follow in the footsteps of great Duke point guards like Kyrie Irving, Tyus Jones and Jason Williams.
