Under Kirby Smart, the Georgia Bulldogs are a recruiting power.

When Georgia decided to hire Kirby Smart as their new head coach in 2016, they did so in hopes that he would take the team from being a consistently good team to one of the elite programs in college football.

Although the Dawgs have their issues, Smart, for the most part, has been successful, making Georgia the clear No. 1 team in the SEC East division, winning an SEC Championship, and almost winning a national title.

Part of the teams’ recent success is thanks to their prowess on the recruiting trail where they have been absolutely stellar since Smart arrived. Beginning with Smart’s first full recruiting class in 2017, Georgia has had a top-three recruiting class each year since according to the 247 Sports rankings.

If the class rankings themselves aren’t impressive enough, in terms of the individual players, the Dawgs have brought in more five-star recruits than any other team in college football over the last five years.

5-star recruits love playing for Georgia football.

Over the last five years, many of these five-stars have become great players for Georgia. And now some are even on their way to potentially becoming stars in the NFL, such as offensive tackle Isiah Wilson, who was drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Titans and running back D’Andre Swift, who was drafted shortly after Wilson early in the second round.

On top of the players who are now past Georgia stars, there are five-stars from these classes who are currently producing on the field for the Bulldogs, such as sophomore wide receiver George Pickens. And there are some who have the talent to become future stars in Athens, like incoming freshman cornerback Kelee Ringo.

Unfortunately, for Georgia football fans, the best recruit the program has ever signed, Justin Fields, transferred after one season, and led Ohio State to the playoff in his first year and is the Heisman favorite this season.

While the Dawgs are yet to cash in on this talent with a national championship victory, and many question the offensive coaching, it is clear that Kirby Smart is doing more than fine in the recruiting department.
