The Nebraska Cornhuskers posted their highest-ever team GPA for the 2019-2020 school year.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers finished the 2019 NCAA season with a paltry 5-7 record, but a strong academic performance may be a silver lining for Scott Frost‘s team.

Per the Nebraska Football Twitter account, the team posted its highest team cumulative GPA and team semester GPA during the 2019-2020 academic year, a 3.149 and 3.297, respectively.

Nebraska is getting wins in the classroom, at least.

While this likely does not cool down Scott Frost’s white-hot seat, it is certainly something for the team to be proud of. Overcoming both the hectic day-to-day schedule of a student-athlete and an abrupt transition to online classes due to the coronavirus pandemic is no easy task, but the team persevered through both to post its highest-ever marks.

The Huskers appear to have things figured out in the classroom, but whether or not that will translate to on-field success in 2020 remains to be seen. Assuming the season happens as planned despite the coronavirus pandemic, Nebraska faces a brutal Big Ten schedule.

Frost’s team opens up with Purdue before facing the likes of Ohio State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Penn State, and Minnesota during the regular season. A non-conference date with Cincinnati likely provides little refuge, and games against Central Michigan, Northwestern, and Illinois could be hard-fought as well.

Of course, the Huskers will likely win at least a few of the games listed above, but keeping Frost’s job will require more than impressive academic performance. Until the third-year head coach can prove that he is capable of turning the program around on the field, his job is likely in danger.
